About

Cataloging my adventures driving across America, one town at a time. I will do my best to avoid the Eisenhower Interstate System as much as possible, but will stop to see many of the landmarks of our great country. Most of all, I hope to meet some of the great people that live here, share a meal or cold beverage with them and learn a thing or two. Suggestions welcome.

Today I begin my journey to the Great Lakes. As a native of Mentor, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, the only great lake I’ve swam in was Lake Erie. I won’t be swimming on this trip, but I hope to bring back some sand from a beach along each of the five Great Lakes.
My first stop is Duluth, Minnesota, near Lake Superior. This lake is the largest of the five and the furthest north. Tomorrow I had towards Mackinaw City, Michigan, which sits between Lakes Huron and Michigan. Monday I drive to Cleveland and will be taking some footage of where I grew up, schools I went to and some other important sites of my childhood. Tuesday I drive to Niagara Falls, which despite being only 3 hours from Cleveland, I have never seen.
Sure, the Great Lakes may not have the grandeur of the Grand Canyon or the beautiful mountains out West, but for me, seeing all five accomplishes a long-held goal. Thanks for reading, take care.
